SCOTT BARRETT TO FILL NSW LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL CASUAL VACANCY

The NSW Nationals have today pre-selected Scott Barrett to fill the casual vacancy left by the Hon. Bronnie Taylor MLC.

Scott Barrett is no stranger to the NSW Parliament having served as a Member of the Legislative Council when he filled a prior casual vacancy left by Hon. Trevor Khan after he retired.

“I am honoured to have been preselected today to fill the casual vacancy and I will work tirelessly to serve the NSW Nationals and the people of regional, rural, and remote NSW,” Mr Barrett said.

“I have big shoes to fill left by my friend Bronnie Taylor, and after the rewarding experience of already being an MLC, I am looking forward to the challenges ahead.

“I thank the NSW Nationals for placing their faith in me to succeed the Hon. Bronnie Taylor whose contribution to NSW has been enormous, and we thank her for her contribution.”

NSW Nationals Chair Rick Colless welcomed and congratulated Mr Barrett.

“Scott was a great Legislative Councillor, and an outstanding advocate for the people of regional, rural, and remote NSW. I know he will bring that same passion and work ethic back with him to the Legislative Council,” Rick Colless said.

“One of the great attributes of the NSW Nationals is its participation by its members in representing their communities and I thank the other three candidates who put themselves forward today.”

Scott Barrett lives near Orange, NSW with his wife and two young sons. Before entering parliament, Scott Barrett worked with a state-wide charity GIVIT on drought, bushfire, and flood recovery. He has most recently been working in the rail industry.

Scott Barrett will start work immediately to transition back into NSW Parliament.

Parliament resumes sitting on 17 September 2024.
