Governor of New South Wales to visit Northern Rivers communities
Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, and Mr Dennis Wilson will be visiting Casino, Lismore, Kyogle, Evans Head and Woodburn from Wednesday, 9 October to Saturday, 12 October 2024.
The Governor said: “Dennis and I are looking forward to visiting these vibrant communities to hear from people who have been at the forefront of community well-being, resilience and recovery, as well as agricultural excellence and innovation.”
In Casino, the Governor and Mr Wilson will find out more about the care provided by the Bulgarr Ngaru Medical Aboriginal Corporation, meet with the Mayor and recently elected Richmond Valley Councillors, and thank staff and supporters of Casino & District Memorial Hospital. A visit to the Richmond Police District in Lismore will also take place.
In Evans Head, engagements will include opportunities to thank volunteers of the Heritage Aviation Museum and Evans Head-Casino Surf Lifesaving Club. After laying a wreath at Evans Head War Cemetery, the Governor and Mr Wilson will meet with members of the Woodburn/Evans Head RSL sub-Branch. They will also visit Mid Richmond Neighbourhood Centre at Woodburn to learn about its flood recovery and youth programs and tour the historic New Italy Museum, meeting with volunteers and descendants.
Returning to Lismore and Casino, the Governor and Mr Wilson will find out more about the operations of two of this region’s largest agricultural enterprises, Norco and the Northern Rivers Livestock Exchange, before travelling to Kyogle to discuss regional growth with Kyogle Council and community programs with young leaders from Kyogle Together.
In the evening, the Governor and Mr Wilson will be guests of honour at the Richmond Valley’s signature event, the 2024 Casino Show, where the Governor will present awards.
The Vice Regal couple’s four-day visit will include a Community Morning Tea at Woodburn Memorial Hall to thank community leaders and representatives from local community organisations.
